"Over 80% of job seekers can't describe their skills in a job interview!"

JOB INVESTIGATION

Job InformationWould you believe there are over 50,000 different jobs available? Yet most people can’t name more than a handful.

It seems that when thinking about jobs and careers, we only think of those we have day-to-day contact with – eg the workers we meet when we go to the shopping mall!

But there are HEAPS more jobs available… in your local area… even in smaller regional towns!

You’ve just got to “open your eyes” a little and look 🙂

Why?

Well, it’s pretty simple!

If you don’t know about it, you can’t really “decide” whether you will (or won’t) want to do that job!

Because our society offers such a wide range of jobs, there are so many jobs about which you know absolutely nothing!

And to make a well-informed career decision, it’s very important you find out about as many jobs as possible. Find out about all the opportunities that might be open to you!

So to get your brain ticking over on this, let’s try…

A Walk in the Park…

Well actually, we’re going to take a walk (in your mind if you’re lazy) down to the main shopping area in your town.

And “walk” from one end to the other…

Write down ALL the different types of retailers you see.

Now… head on over to your local industrial area/s

Again, write down all the different businesses you see there!

Is there a medical area in town? What’s near the Hospital?

What about a Tourism area?

Any “professional” offices you can tour? Lawyers, Accountants etc?

Write down ALL the places/businesses you see!

I bet you will be VERY SURPRISED at how many different job types are available locally 🙂

And you probably thought there was very little available LOL

Hopefully, your brain is well and truly ticking over now!

So let’s try some…

Lateral Thinking

This exercise is meant to broaden your thinking rather than be too practical. Just use some imagination. Also, consider your possible interests.

Answer these questions:

  • What trade appeals to you most?
  • What could you sell most easily?
  • What would you most like to build?
  • What would you most like to write?
  • What would you like to grow to sell?
  • What would you like to make to sell?
  • Which outdoor job appeals to you most?
  • What job would you like to do in a circus?
  • What would you like to drive for a living?
  • In a theatre, what job would you like to do?
  • What would you like to invent or discover?
  • What type of doctor would you like to be?
  • What task would you enjoy in a T.V. studio?
  • In a restaurant, what job would be most suitable?
  • Which overseas country would you like to work in?
  • Which department store occupation would suit you?
  • Where would you be able to contribute most in a hospital?
  • If you were a teacher, what and/or who would you like to teach?
  • What role could you enjoy fulfilling in the travel and tourism industry?
  • If you had lived 100 years ago, what would you have liked to have done?

Are any of these REAL options for you?
